AMBER COX (Yr 13) MEETS PRINCE WILLIAM AND KATE
My day with Royalty...
At half five in the morning on the day of the royal wedding, I was asked to get up and sell programmes with 60 other scouts. The programme selling itself was an amazing experience as the atmosphere along the mall was incredible. A couple of weeks later I received an email inviting me to have tea in Clarence House as a thank you. At first I thought that this was very nice of them and that I would only be meeting the people who had asked the Scouting movement to get involved. It wasn't until later that day I was told that a couple of members of the royal family would be joining us and that they would be the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
I was overjoyed to be picked for this once in a life time experience. I feel that if it wasn't for my scouting, I would never have opportunities like this. I would like to encourage other Welling pupils to get involved even if it is only 1 hour a week.

Ravensbourne Summer School - 11th-14th July 2011
I write to offer an opportunity for Year 12 students in your sixth form/ college to take part in the Ravensbourne Summer School. It is targeted at able students keen to apply to higher education for Art, Design and media courses and will provide them a portfolio of work that will support applications. Students will be expected to attend the Summer School for two days, either 11th & 12th July or 13th&14th July. We have 50 places available for both sessions and places will be awarded on a first come first served basis.
The Summer School theme is ‘Celebrity Culture’ and will cover design, production, presentation, and broadcast media. The Y12 students will select one of four courses: Fashion Design; Graphics; Broadcast Sound; Media.
The Fashion students will design and produce garments and accessories for a popular celebrity which will be displayed in a ‘catwalk’ show on the final day. They will learn techniques and skills associated with design, production and presentation. The outcomes will be a high quality portfolio and show reel which will support any future applications to college and will also enhance their ‘A’ level course work.
The Broadcast and Media students will learn about all aspects of sound and film recording. They will use ‘state of the art’ equipment at the new Ravensbourne media studios. Working in teams they will record the activities of the fashion students; do interviews with them and the staff and record the final ‘catwalk’ show. The outcomes will be a CD with evidence of their work and a recording of the ‘catwalk’ show which will support any future applications to college and will also enhance their ‘A’ level course work.
The Graphics students will learn about design, production and marketing materials. The outcome will be a high quality portfolio which will support any future application to college.
All the students will receive information on university including: the application process for art and design courses; student finance; and progression routes.
Please find attached fliers for the students and application forms which will need to be collected and returned to Ravensbourne by Friday 10th June 2011. Schools and students will be notified of their place by Friday 17th June 2011.
