Applying to Oxbridge?

With September now upon us, (where did summer go?!), we understand that your key focus is to ensure that your students put their all into tackling the different stages of their Oxbridge applications. I hope that your students’ personal statements are progressing well (we know it can feel like a lengthy process). The effort is worth it, as over 70% of the applicants we worked with last year were asked about their statement in the interview. It is so important therefore as you know, that students spend time ensuring that their statement reflects their opinions, academic understanding of their subject and evidence of their work beyond the syllabus.

We understand that your attentions will be turning to admissions tests – a crucial part of the Oxbridge application process. Having spoken with many applicants who went through the tests last year, we know students feel much more confident if they understand the format of their admissions test and practise the skills which it requires. Last year, a number of applicants expressed concern over the time constraints when it came to the real thing, as well as being unsure as to how to best prepare given it feels that so much of the test still feels ‘unknown.’

To help strengthen students’ core analytical, logical and critical thinking skills required in the BMAT, Cambridge Law Test, ELAT, HAT, LNAT, TSA Cambridge and TSA Oxford, we are running two one-day Admissions Test Seminars in London on Saturday 9th & Saturday 16th October at the London School of Economics.

These seminars will be led by our fantastic and ‘inspirational’ consultants (to quote feedback from a number of recent applicants!) who will ensure that the students work hard throughout the day and understand that the tests can be enjoyable as well as challenging. They will explain how to approach questions and how to structure answers so that students demonstrate their analytical skills and express their ideas coherently. Students will sit a mock test on the day, and our consultant will mark their test and return it within ten days of the seminar – explaining what went well, where students can improve and how their score compares to other applicants at the seminar. For further details, or simply click here for more information and how to book, as places are filling up fast.

We have a special schools price of £90 per applicant, for all seminar bookings made through the school. You simply need to enter the code ‘schools2010’ at the checkout, and the discount from the standard price of £180 will be applied.

And... to help get those admissions test juices flowing, why not ask your students to have a go at answering the taster questions in our brochure attached. If you then log onto www.oxbridgeapplications.com you can see how their answer compares to ours... but ask them to refrain from taking a peak at the answer before they have had a go themselves!

Wishing all the best for your students. If your students cannot make it to our seminars, we do have mock tests available online. Just click here to find out more.
